A person who contaminated sweets with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on recently.
However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said items including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities again.
She said the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
