Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
